Savanna Judd (Heartsl0b)
Themes: Nostalgia, Liminality, Technology
Savanna Judd’s (also known by their internet moniker heartsl0b) paintings of familiar, often interior, spaces and the objects within them capture the liminal quality of the mundane spaces in our lives in a way that feels incredibly alive with no human subjects.
Judd, Savanna. You're Home, Nothing's Changed. 2021, acrylic on wood panel.
Judd’s use of bright, neon color and the crowding of objects, wires, books, toys, and other personal items contribute to the sense of comfort, belonging, and personality in the spaces they depict. The embracement of maximalism in the almost overwhelming amount of detail, information, and intense vibrancy of color within their work harkens back to user-built websites of the internet before the streamlining of user interface and design.

“VENTRICLE features the personal computer as the warm center of a bedroom, the powerhouse of the organ, the main chamber fed into by auxiliary units. The monitor is a room within a room, and the meatspace bends around it like a protective cavity.” – Savanna Judd
While I was not old enough to experience the full breadth of the early internet, Judd’s works evoke strong feelings of nostalgia and memories of growing up on the web.
